Uncle of two
Kassa Belay currently works at SCO Family of Services, where he co-directs the United for Brownsville initiative (UB). UB organizes efforts that measurably improve early childhood systems in Brownsville, Brooklyn. UB uses a participatory planning model that centers the lived experience of local parents and then reality tests improvement projects with frontline service providers.
Through this work, he often finds himself participating in efforts that require a multi-sector approach to address complex issues that lie beneath educational inequities.
Kassa graduated from The New School with an MS in Urban Policy Analysis and Management. Previous to that, Kassa graduated from Concordia University, in Montreal, Canada with a B.A. (Joint Specialization) in Anthropology and Sociology. Kassa was born and raised in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain.
